The School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Mysuru, was established in 2015-16 at the University of Mysore, Mysuru. The SPA was formed by amalgamating the Urban and Regional Planning course and the Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning, which were started in 1972 at the Institute of Development Studies, and Architecture Courses, namely B.Arch and M.Arch (Urban Design), which were started in 2002 at the University School of Design (USD) in the University of Mysore.
The vision of the Institute is to create a dedicated hub for research, innovation, and collaboration in urban planning, urban design, and architecture. There are two departments in SPA, namely the Department of Planning and the Department of Architecture. The Planning Courses are recognized by the Institute of Town Planners India (ITPI), New Delhi, and the Architecture Courses are recognized by the Council of Architecture (CoA), New Delhi.
The school began operating in the newly built School of Planning and Architecture Building, strategically located on the University of Mysore Campus. The SPA campus is situated on a 15-acre leafy plot with a built-up area of 84,000 sq. ft. and state-of-the-art facilities.

Planning, M.Tech in Urban and Regional Planning, and Doctoral Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, accredited by the Council of ITPI and Architecture courses, viz. B.Arch, M.Arch (Urban Design) accredited by the Council of Architecture.
